Quote of the month...

"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

Guided Reading Centers

So far, all of my children have been able to have the same 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Jill Carbajal. She is a really great teacher and I love that they have all (so far) had her. ( can ya tell I'm excited about this, I've just repeated myself!) I like to go help out for guided reading centers. The class is divided up into several different reading groups and during the hour she calls each group up to read and discuss the book they are reading with her. The kids are also split up into center groups and move around the room to writing , reading, sequencing, science, chunk and several more areas. The helpers go around the room and help, check and monitor the kids. It gives you a little taste of what it would be like to be a teacher of 7, 8 and 9 year olds. Today was my first day back in 2 years. It is so much fun to watch the kids grow over the year. I'm really looking forward to my hour of helping on Wednesdays. Robby is SO excited that I'm coming in to help. I think the whole class knew I was coming today ... Most of the kids came in and said, "You're Robby's mom." Then after the teacher introduced me they all said, "Hello, Mrs. Keiser." Which is a little weird for me I much prefer just plain ole Carrie. I still think of my mother in law as 'Mrs. Keiser' even after being 'Mrs. Keiser' for the past 14 years!
The little kids are actually taking a nap! Robby just got home from school, Savanna is not feeling well, the two older ones are sitting for the piano teacher and Troy is helping his dad.... so I guess that leaves me to make dinner......

My son had Mrs. Karen Carbajal last year for 2nd grade; how WEIRD is that??? Same last name, same grade, different place. Wow.

That is crazy! Carbajal and 2nd grade go hand in hand :-) Makes ya wonder if they could be related ... or how common of a name it is ...

I volunteer at the school every Tuesday and spend about 90 minutes in the reading center at the kids' school (and 30 in the 4th grade and 30 in the kindergarten). I love it!

When Isaac was in Kindergarten and I volunteered it was so nice for me realize that despite my misgivings about my parenting skills his fascination with bathroom humor and occasional spaz moments were the norm rather than the exception. Whew! I breathed a little easier... :)

I volunteer and I've realized that it's almost more important to my boys that I do it, than it is to me. But, I love being in the classroom and getting to know the teacher and kids and observing mine.

What is chunk?

That does sound like a lot of fun! And I hope Savannah feels better.

Cecily and Holly- Yup it is most important to the child, it says you love them enough to come to class for them. But we seem to get just as much out of it!:-)
