Quote of the month...

"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

Weekly Photo Challenge -- Lines

Join the fun of WC at Hope and Believe.
This week's challenge says: "Since I'm all out of ideas, I thought I give myself something kind of easy and yet artistic at the same time. So, this WC is all about LINES. They are found EVERYWHERE! Have fun! And please link us up to your work. We love to see what you come up with. Anyone can play."

Power lines
Lines on the playground.
Bridge lines.
Wood lines.
Line of swingers.
Line of kids walking to the playground. The weather was SO nice yesterday that we went for a walk or two! These were all taken on our walks.

Weekly Photo Challenge -- Studio

Join the fun at Hope and Believe
This week's challenge is Studio: 'Show us your shots and tell me your secrets. I want to see what you create in a "studio" setting. Let me know what backgrounds are your faves and where you shoot.'
Well, I was excited about this challenge as I'm always in need of new ideas for my "studio" shots! I don't have a studio, I have whatever I can find, so here's what I've found!

September 11, 2002 "Studio": I borrowed a camera and used the corner of the boys' room.... I first hung a white sheet and then arranged the flag very carefully behind them. I threw some benches in front covered with a blanket, arranged the kids and took pictures.Put a different blanket on the bench.Wasn't Robby a doll?!
Traded the flag for Cody's bed spread. Changed the sitting from a bench to buckets covered with a blanket and arranged the Harry Potter books, added the cloak and wand.

January 2004 "Studio": My living room wall a bench covered with lacy curtains and my daughter dressed in her flower girl dress from a wedding. We did these for her baptism program.
January 21, 2009 "Studio": dining room, backdrop a 1890's - 1900's bath cabinet (got for a dollar at a yard sale) covered with slippery cream material (can ya tell I'm no seamstress?) purchased from the second-hand store in a bag for a buck! Armrest/seat: Dress-up treasure box flipped over and covered in material.
Add some happy kids and even a grumpy teen put the camera on sepia --- perfect photo shoot!
This is What Em wore to church and since I had this challenge on the brain, I quick setup a "Studio": bedroom corner, long lead rope, black king size sheet, bucket with lid and black pillow case. Add one girl ready for posing and you've got it!

Weekly Photo Challenge -- Distortion

For more photo challenges go to the creators at:

Oh, man this was difficult! I was not sure exactly what to do to distort a photo.....
While chatting with my sister I asked her for help. She suggested we both take pictures through a jar:
before that though I tried a few things on my own.....
My washing machine sorta looks a bit distorted.
Cookie, not sure how distorted it looks, but it was another attempt.
I'm going to have to keep trying this one until I feel like I understand it.

Weekly photo challenge--love

join the fun of weekly photo challenge at hope and believe.

It is possible that I didn't actually take this shot, but I did set it up. There were a few of us snapping photos that night and I call it 'Young Love'. They are such a cute couple. They have been married for years, probably pushing 50 years together. He is SO devoted to her. She has recently gotten bad with her altzheimers.

This is my brother-in-law and son on the day they were sealed in the Spokane Temple. I call this one 'Father's Love'.

Weekly photo challenge--relationship

"This week's challenge is to photograph a relationship! Find something special between two or more peeps and capture it to the best of your abilities. It should be FUN!! Try to find that exact moment that it registers on their face how much they LOVE or HATE another person...show the times that they play well together or fight amongst each other. :) Any relationship that you want to share is just right!! Anyone out there want to play along? We want to see the relationships around YOU! Show us your best shots!!"

OK, I feel like this was a challenge just for me, I try to avoid the whole take a picture of people.... well, not really I just hate to convince them to "act natural". Nature sits still and waits patiently while I try to figure out just how I want the picture to look, people don't!

This is just who Scott is and just exactly how they all react to him. At the time this was taken, I was trying out my new camera and I just wanted to get a good shot of the kids. I got one where they were all facing the camera, but this one is my favorite.
Today I made these Thing 1 & Things 2 halloween costumes. I thought it might be fun to drag up the pumpkin and try for a few shots of them being natural.... these were the best, they were mostly being silly.
Then we traded the pumpkin for the exercise ball and they did their best to balance!
They might fight and be big pills but these two have a bond ... a twin bond ... that I hope they never loose!

SkyWatch Friday-reflection

For more skies go here!
This is the dang annoying puddle on the corner of our house..... but it does provide and interesting view of the sky.
I'd seen a few reflection shots and I just wanted to give it a try. It is amazing how the view changes when you walk a little this way or that.
A few weeks ago we went for a walk/ride across the Bell Street bridge. I am getting in the habit of packing the camera around. After getting a few pix of the kiddos, I turned the lens on the fall colors emerging .... the Yellowstone provided a nice place to capture them.
When looking over the photo challenges today I say that one I hadn't done was reflection. So I thought I'd submit this entry.

Weekly photo challenge--perspective Word-full Wednesday

WC: How low can you go? Get down & take something at a different perspective than you might normally get. Come play along with us! The Slide Show of Fame awaits you...

OK, So I loved this challenge! I hardly ever get a low shot, but I got a few today that I really like. I took the twins for a walk and we explored and experienced and had fun. Some of these shots I was laying in the dirt for and I'm sure they thought I was nutty! I'll let you all be the judge....
I really like the through the grass look of yours {ZB} with the fall colors in the background and did something similar with these.

Scott
Then we continued on our walk and found these horses. As I first pondered exactly how to get over to them and second how best to frame the perspective I was aiming for....
1)The horses were located across a ditch -- I should have taken a picture of the ditch -- and up the other side. It was a good 4 or 5 feet down and back up! The twins were troopers and we made it. 2)for the above shot I was literally hanging off the edge of the ditch.
I crept a little closer and found these four saying Hi.
After a few quick lessons on how to feed the horses, I knelt down and pointed the camera up.
Scott and Em were really enjoying meeting these two horses. They had never really been that up close with horses.
Check out Cody's entry!

Weekly photo challenge--refocus

OK I got 'er done. Cody did a great job on this challenge too. This was fun and a challenge for me ..... a challenge to decide what to capture and exactly how to get the 2 shots to be the same.... and my batteries were dying! The camera doesn't play fair when the batteries are SO low!

Once the pictures were taken, the twins and I played in the leaves. I posted those photos on the kids blog, if you're interested in checking them out.

Weekly photo challenge--Zing: actions/filters

"So the weekly challenge is present 1 photo with 2 or more different actions/filters (whatever) that you are debating on. This can be something you are working on currently or something from the past (to make it easy)."

I think this is what the challenge is about.......
Original right out of the camera.
Fisheye effect
Sepia toned
And of course I couldn't just do one.....
Straight out of the camera.
Spotlight and Cartoon effect
Changed the tint to green and changed the angle of the photo making the hands more of the focal point.
Go here for more weekly challenges!
