Quote of the month...

"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

Foto Story Friday #47 --Shantel and animals

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and
MamaGeek

When she was 3 or 4 we had a dog, Buddy. Shantel could look at him and say: "go potty" and that big ole black lab would trot right out to his run and do his business. I would take him to the door in the morning and say: "go potty" and that same dog would look at me like: "and are you who?" He never listened to me, but if she had told him to jump, I swear that dog would have asked "how high?"
Shantel has always had a way with animals. Here she is at 6 with the bran-new colt.
The only person the foal, Diamond, came up to was Shantel.
Page, the mother, watches as Shantel touches her baby. The rest of us tried to get close and Page was right there or Diamond would run.
Shantel has had cats, hamsters and rabbits, they have all just loved her. She just has a way with animals.
Looking at these photos, I said to myself "Wasn't is just yesterday that she was little?" Guess not......
Shantel at 13!

Foto Story Friday #46 Post Card Perfect

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

May 30, 2002
We had a beautiful little foal bright and early. We had our horses (Arabians) pastured outside of town at friends. As they were headed off to school, they noticed the birth was happening. They took a few photos and called shortly after to let us know. I was SO excited, the kids and I raced right up and took pictures. At the time, I only had a 35mm film camera (I took several photos on film, they are not scanned). I borrowed their digital camera and took these:
Peek-a-boo!
Kiss
Postcard Perfect

This is my favorite shot of the day. I know the foal looks rail skinny, but you've got to remember she is only a few hours old. She fattened right up.
We've since sold them and I do not have a recent photo of her.

Walk this way...
Storm troopers, beware!
OK, OK, I'll confess!

Foto Story Friday #44 new toy

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

March 23rd I got a new toy:
Just opened the box.
Unloading the goods.
What? I thought it was MY toy! Troy took the first picture too, what's up with that?!
Ah what a cute little baby tripod!
My sister and her husband each have a Canon and they convinced me to join them in Canon ownership. I'm enjoying learning how to use the functions offered. I'm dreaming of more lenses.
So what have I shot with this baby?
One of my first was of my last year's camera.
I got this nice clear shot of Scott.

Bowl of ice cream anyone?
I don't have a super zoom, but I did have fun trying to get a moon shot. It's not really fuzzy, there were clouds covering the moon. I was also playing with the settings trying to get different looks.

Foto Story Friday #43 BYU Folk Dance Ensemble

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

March 2nd-4th we had the BYU Folk Dance Ensemble here in little ole Glendive! We signed up to host two of them in our home. They got into town in time for dinner and FHE (family home evening -- our lesson was on honesty.) We had the pleasure of having Amy (in blue) and Sarah (in white and black) stay in our home for 2 nights.
March 3rd just before the kids headed out to school I snapped a quick photo with the gals. (Scott was still sleeping.) Amy is one of the dancers and Sarah is a member of the band, she plays the cello. They had practices, an all school assembly during the day. Dinner was provided for them at the church early that evening.
The performance was the evening of March 3rd at 7:30 in the High School auditorium. They performed to a packed house.
We were allowed to take photos during the the band's prelude music.
They were amazing!
Here is Sarah in action.
I loved this drum-- it is a box drum, very cool.
I wish we could have taken pictures of the performance they were outstanding I loved all the different numbers.
March 4th getting ready to head back to the bus and move on to Billings. (photo by EmmaLece)
Preparing to load the bus up at the church. (Another lady took this photo and the following one as I was unable to be there and Troy didn't have the camera.)
The guy flying through the air, it was his birthday and they sang and gave him a toss.
Such a great experience for everyone. I would strongly urge all of you to attend a performance by these amazing young adults. If the BYU Folk Dancers come close to your town, go you will not be disappointed!
