Quote of the month...

"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

Foto Story # 75-- Beautiful Skies

Thanks to a high schooler who also has an early morning religious class, seminary, I have been forced... er, blessed with the opportunity of being up before the sun rises. Tuesday morning dawned in radiant splendor! I could not believe how bright and beautiful the colors were. It is difficult to get him to class on time when I really just wanted to have him pull over so I get out and compose a shot or 20! The morning sky changes SO much faster than the evening sky. The bright colors quickly fade and are gone in a matter of seconds.

That same evening the setting sun put on its own display of colors. Evening sky usually gets more colorful as the minutes pass and the challenge is not the loss of color but the loss of light in which to capture the range of colors that have appeared.

May we each take a moment to enjoy the sky whether you are a morning or an evening sky the beauty painted there is calming and inviting.

Foto Story #69-- Dramatic Sky

Because I love the sky I have to check it out daily... many times daily. I very easily could take sunset pictures every day for each is beautiful and a little different or a lot different depending on the clouds, and the angle of the shotor the direction you're facing.
Forbidding morning clouds. As I stepped into the car to ride to seminary with Cody one morning, I saw these clouds and was sure we were in for rain..... turned out to be a beautiful sunny day~!
The sunsets over the Yellowstone River. The colors reflected so nicely that evening.
Although there is a shopping cart in the corner of this shot, I like the beautiful pink sky and farmstyle house framed by the trees. I took another shot and didn't get the cart, but it cut too much tree off. I'd edit the cart out but currently I have only one bad program and it doesn't allow you to have much control. This shot is facing east. I do love it when the whole sky gets to participate in the setting sun.
This is the same sunset a few minutes later and facing west in another location in town.
Another view of the same sunset facing south. I liked how the sliver moon was surrounded by pink and blue. I stood in the same spot to take this one and the previous shot.

SkyWatch Friday- from the plane

For more skywatch visit the site
Through skywatch I have seen someof the neatest pictures from the plane window.  On our recent trip I wanted to give this a shot.  I got many bad ones, but here are a few of my favorites:
Somewhere between Billings MT and Minneapolis, MN.
Head in the clouds!
Pillowy soft clouds between Tampa FL and Indianapolis IN.
Also taken on the flight from Tampa to Indianapolis, do you see what I saw?  Is this not an awesome shot?

Foto-story Friday #21-- Cowpie trails

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Go see more of the skies around the world here.

Back in 2001 when we moved to the farm, we went from the big city life to the middle of nowhere Eastern MT s-l-o-w paced life.  After the tractor rescue and before the tornado experience and the construction, we walked and explored everywhere!  The farmers have a lot of land and we needed something to do.
Look closely at the below photo.... in the background you can see the grain elevators of the town of Lindsay.  Actually, the buildings in the back, yeah they are the whole town of Lindsay!  It consists of:  a school grades K-8, post office, a bar/restaurant, a little gas station, 7 houses and the grain elevators!  On one of our many walks, Cody stabbed this cowpie and carried it around like a flag.

I believe these pictures were taken in the spring months of 2001.
The buildings you can just see in this shot are of the farm from across the field.
I have no idea how many miles we walked that summer.... it's no wonder I was way skinnier! :)
These first 5 photos were taken all on the same walk.  {not bad for the digital cameras of 7 years ago?!}
Robby out exploring on one of our first adventures.  I think we rode bike for this one.  The below picture is from the same day.  We climbed all over these bales.

It wasn't until we moved to this side of the state that I understood why Montana is called Big Sky Country! Look how the sky seems to be endless?

SkyWatch Friday-reflection

For more skies go here!
This is the dang annoying puddle on the corner of our house..... but it does provide and interesting view of the sky.
I'd seen a few reflection shots and I just wanted to give it a try. It is amazing how the view changes when you walk a little this way or that.
A few weeks ago we went for a walk/ride across the Bell Street bridge. I am getting in the habit of packing the camera around. After getting a few pix of the kiddos, I turned the lens on the fall colors emerging .... the Yellowstone provided a nice place to capture them.
When looking over the photo challenges today I say that one I hadn't done was reflection. So I thought I'd submit this entry.

SkyWatch Friday-the evening sky

While lying back on the tire swing, I looked up and thought it might be a cool shot or two for skywatch Friday.
Looked in a little different area and got this one.
The tree branches were gently blowing in the breeze giving the picture an interesting blurred effect.
As we were heading into the house I looked up and saw the moon.  I NEVER get a decent moon picture, but I think this one turned out pretty good.

SkyWatch Friday-clouds

Click the here to visit other skywatchers.
I found it fitting as I hoped over to the sky watch headquarters that this week they chatted about clouds.  I had already decided to post a few pix of the clouds I'd observed this past weekend.  So here they are!

The sky over Billings, MT as we prepared to head home Saturday.

Taken from the passenger window on the ride home.  When I first looked up and saw this, it was a heart, by the time I got the camera out and pointed, the shape had changed.  Now it looks like a window to heaven.
Taken while cruising down the freeway nearing home.
I wanted to thank all of you who came and checked out my first skywatch last week!
