Quote of the month...

"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

Foto-story Friday #18- it's off!

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

These fotos really tell the story without the need of many words:

After 7 weeks of confinement, we get one last shot of the cast before...
she starts to 'cut' it off.
"What exactly IS that?"  The other gal didn't use one of these guides, I guess she feels more comfortable with it.
Cody looks more uncomfortable though.
OK, so now it's cut on both sides.....
she uses these nifty spreaders to crack it open.
Cody has earned the right of taking it apart.  She came back with snipers and removed the water-proof padding.
Cody had put baking soda down inside because it was getting kinda {gag, choke} smelly!
She came back and gave the arm a quick scrub down before sending him off for an x-ray.
It looks a bit skinnier than his left arm and kinda funny too.  After the x-rays the Dr. looked em over and said he would now be cast free!  He got all excited until the Doc went on to say:  No sports, no bikes, no stake-boarding no gym for 3 to 4 weeks!  His face fell.  Then Dad said, "Uh, hunting season is coming up....." The Doc said hunting was fine and the smile returned to his face!  After all he is  left handed and he has a brand-new hunting rifle!
He didn't like how it look so he throughly scrubbed it.  When that wasn't up to his liking, he shaved his arm and felt that he finally got it clean!

There is nothing like getting a cast off. Here's hoping that it continues to heal...and quickly so he can get back to the fun stuff!

Oh wow, what a long summer. And thank you for sharing these, I have actually never seen this before (fingers crossed I didn't just jinx myself). :)

We just went through this but with the foot! It does look so funny the different in size. We did the baking powder thing too, didn't work for us, but thankfully he had the boot so I just threw it in the wash, it helped a little. :-)

I remember that first post about this broken arm -- glad to see that everything healed well. Nice that they could throw that hunting bone to him.

It must have felt great for him to take it apart himself.

My daughter told me that a kid stuck a pencil down his cast because it itched so much, but the pencil got lost in the cast.

Glad you didn't find any lost items!

Casts . . . only had two amongst five kids -- that was enough! (Ugh!) : )

There is nothing like the freedom of having a cast off. Glad he is enjoying that now!
I am sure he is grateful for the opportunity to do some hunting.

Hooray for the cast removal. They get stinky soooo quickly. And, the arm looks so different.

I'm glad he's excited about being able to hunt.

Wow! Great story with pictures. I'm so glad your son at least gets to go hunting with his dad!

Thanks for stopping by my Photostory Friday, too. Yep; baby Carly was enamored with her great grandma. It was something to see!

I remember that feeling after a cast is removed. I also thought my arm looked very different and dehydrated. Glad he's able to use the new rifle.

Good to get the cast off! We've had some broken bones in our family but so far they've only needed splints and such, no casts. I bet Cody is thrilled that he still gets to hunt!

I have had a couple similar experiences! Glad that he is able to hunt still. Good luck!

I hope Cody listens better than my son ever did, he always thought "No skateboarding" meant indoor video snowboarding and jumping on the trampoline were alright.
This was a great idea for a psf, Congrats!

I can imagine how happy he is.
mmm... I was thinking how he would scratch if it is itchy inside the cast? isn't it great to be free again?
