Quote of the month...

"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

52 Weeks of Blessings - Week 2-- good health

This week I'm thankful for health. My health, my husband's health and the health of my children. On the 9th of Jan. my sister-in-law had her daughter, Emily Rose, at 32 weeks she had seriously slowed down in her growth due to low levels of amniotic fluid. At birth she was 1 lb 13 ozs {I'm not sure how long she is}. She is currently breathing on her own and got down 24 cc of breast milk. I think she's a trooper. This picture was taken on Sat. Her family will be staying at a Ronald McDonald House, as they live 1 1/2 hours from the hospital in Phoenix.
I'm thankful that I've never had to leave my baby at the hospital. I pray daily for her and her family. I wish that we lived closer, so that we could visit or help watch her older brother so her parents could be there more often. If I could I would be there to help in any way.

My girls were born at 32 weeks and were much larger than that. They are healthy and wonderful now, as you know. They spent 29 days in the NICU. I volunteer in my NICU and you would be amazed at what I see. If you have any questions or I can do anything please let me know. I am an expert on pumping and I went through a lot to get my preemies to nurse. Sometimes its a tough road waiting for these babies to get bigger and healthier but she will get there. I have a friend who's daughter was about that weight (which is the weight of many 25-26 weekers) from similar problems (placenta not doing its job) and she is 8 and smart and healthy. (((HUGS))). It is VERY difficult to have your baby in the NICU which is one of the reasons I volunteer and try to help parents deal with all that trama. We are just not meant to do it.

Laura- Thanks. The other part of this equation is that my sister-in-law and her husband are a bit challenged. We, as a family, have tried to impress upon them the importance of bieng there daily with her. I think they are getting it. At first they were only going to visit Emily on her husbands days off, but now they are going to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. I don't think she is brest feeding, I think it donnor milk, as she didn't breastfeed their son {he's almost 2}. All the details are not clear as she can't always remember what's she's been told. My mother-in-law and I would love to take a road trip to help out, but who would take care of my crew while I ran away? I just pray that she grows and develops normally, as we're not sure how she would deal with a challenged child.

Awe, such a sweet baby! I will pray for little Emily Rose. (I love that name.) Our youngest spent 17 days in the NICU and had 2 surgeries. Health is indeed a great blessing!! I marvel at what modern medicine can do!!

Cindy- Thank you for the prayers! Modern medicine is a wonder and a blessing.

Thanks for the post on my blog. Are you related to Ryan Keiser?
The baby in the NICU picture is all too familiar to me. My son was born at 33 weeks but was much bigger than that little one. I have seen many many babies that were that tiny. These little bodies sure can fight!

Carrie and Troy Keiser said...

Aprilyn- Not that I'm aware of. I'm amazed by how many people have had babies in the NICU. I think she will grow and thrive. Positive thoughts and prayers!

What a sweet, tiny baby. I hope she continues to do well. We do take our healthy children for granted, and it's nice to be reminded of that blessing!
