Quote of the month...

"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

Foto Story Friday #105-- Branding 2010

On Memorial day, we went branding and, of course, I wrangled up a bunch of pictures.
Yeah, I'm glad I'm not a calf!
A momma anticipating whatever's coming next......
The kids were practicing their roping skills, while the momma's were separated from their babies.
This gal was so nervous about the pen that she attempted to jump out!  Didn't work out so well as she got her hoof caught and one of the cowboys had to come rescue her.
We had a couple of rowdy cows, who mowed down couple of people.  I missed the first one, but I got this guy in mid-trample.  He was a little sore, but got right back into the fray.
The guys wait anxiously for a run away!  This little one thought it was home free, but was no match for his rope!
This young cowboy was determined to rope in a record number of calves.  He did better this year than last and was pleased with his accomplishments.
Getting ready to show up the boys!
Headed out to round up the second group of cattle.
I just liked the saddle bag set there on the post .... waiting and ready to be thrown on the horse.
I took over 400 pictures and I won't subject you to any more today.

This is such a foreign thing to me it's like a movie. That makes me lame, I know. :) Great pictures. What a great history!

Very neat set of pictures -- I love the saddlebag, and the close up of the cow's face.

If I got trampled by a cow, I would get as far from the fray as I could.

Wow. What great pictures. I wouldn't want to see my baby branded either. That has to be the worst!

What a cool experience! Although I may be a bit too soft to watch it myself. ;)

Oh awesome! I love the saddle bags on the fence the best. :) Too bad you couldn't join the IHF photo walk...but I think I would have enjoyed branding cattle much more. :)

It is great to see all of that. Growing up and living in New England we don't see to many branding days around here.

That saddle one is great. That would be quite the thing to experience.. though I don't think I would like seeing them branded, ouch!

This is so awesome. I get to live through you today! I love it! Like a real Western...sorry, I know...that was a dorky comment, but really...that is so cool. this must be normal to you, but for me, it is new and different. I'm from the boonies, but we are the boring boonies, not the roping and branding kind! Love that last shot especially!

This is so wild! I cannot even begin to imagine my family or myself doing anything remotely close ;-)
